Former US president Joe Biden is undergoing radiation therapy as part of his treatment for prostate cancer, a spokesperson confirmed on Saturday. Biden’s care also includes hormone medication, which he had been taking since his diagnosis in May.
The spokesperson told NBC that the new radiation therapy is planned over a five-week period and represents a new stage in Biden’s ongoing treatment. The former president had already disclosed taking hormone pills earlier this year when asked about his health.
Biden was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, his office announced in May. He completed his single term in the White House in January 2025 after losing the 2024 election to Republican Donald Trump.
After the diagnosis, Biden addressed the public, expressing optimism about his prognosis. “The expectation is we are going to be able to beat this,” he said.
Following his presidency, Biden returned to his home in Delaware. He is set to turn 83 next month. In September, he underwent Mohs surgery to remove cancerous cells from his skin, adding to his ongoing medical care.
Biden’s treatment plan, combining hormone therapy with radiation, aims to manage the spread of cancer and improve long-term outcomes. The former president has consistently communicated a proactive approach to his health and remains under careful medical supervision.
The news underscores continued attention on Biden’s health following his term in office, as he balances public life with personal medical treatment.
