Ghanaian musician Belinda Ekua Amoah, widely known as Mzbel, has called out gospel star Sonnie Badu for failing to repay a $300 debt, which has been pending for nearly nine years. The debt stems from a purchase Mzbel made on Badu’s behalf using her Visa card. In a video posted on Instagram on February 25, 2025, Mzbel expressed her frustration with the ongoing issue, and also criticized what she termed “fake men of God” who exploit their followers for personal gain.
Mzbel’s Claims Against Sonnie Badu
In her Instagram video, Mzbel recounted how Sonnie Badu approached her years ago for assistance in purchasing an item using her Visa card. She claimed that Badu promised to pay her back the $300, but despite her repeated reminders, he has failed to do so.
“It’s been almost nine years now, and I have been patient all this while,” Mzbel said in the video. “He asked me to buy something for him, and I used my Visa card to make the purchase. But he has refused to pay me back. All I want is the $300, nothing more.”
She emphasized that she had reminded Badu multiple times, including a recent conversation, but he dismissed her concerns as a joke. “I am not asking for $320; just the $300 he owes me,” she added.
Concerns About False Religious Leaders
In addition to addressing the financial issue with Badu, Mzbel used the opportunity to speak out against the integrity of some religious leaders in Ghana. She claimed that many so-called “men of God” are deceiving their followers and using spirituality for personal gain.
“Many so-called men of God are scamming people because they think they are smart. They use spirituality to manipulate people,” Mzbel stated. “They know the truth, but those who lack divine insight resort to using powers that do not come from God.”
Mzbel also accused certain pastors of using “juju” (a form of magic) to perform miracles and manipulate energy for selfish purposes. “They manipulate energies through juju,” she said. “These same people approach me to convert me to Christianity, and we end up becoming friends.”
Mzbel’s History with Sonnie Badu
Though Mzbel’s accusations have caught the public’s attention, she clarified that this issue with Sonnie Badu is not the only instance where she has befriended people from different faiths. “So, Sonnie Badu is not the only one I have befriended,” she explained, highlighting that she remains open to friendships regardless of religious differences.
As of now, Sonnie Badu has not publicly responded to the allegations.
Public Reaction and Online Discussions
The accusations have sparked debates on social media, with many users weighing in on the ethics of religious leaders and the importance of financial accountability. Some have expressed support for Mzbel, agreeing with her concerns about manipulative religious practices, while others have called for a resolution between the two musicians.
Mzbel’s video has brought attention to the wider issue of personal accountability and the role of religious leaders in Ghanaian society. Many are questioning the use of spiritual influence for personal gain, urging greater transparency and honesty within religious communities.
The ongoing controversy between Mzbel and Sonnie Badu highlights the challenges of financial accountability and the potential misuse of spiritual authority. While the matter remains unresolved, it has opened up important conversations about ethics, trust, and the role of money in relationships.
As the situation develops, many are eager to see if Sonnie Badu will address the allegations and if there will be a resolution to the longstanding debt. In the meantime, the story continues to captivate public attention, particularly on social media platforms where conversations surrounding fake spiritual leaders and financial transparency are gaining momentum.
