The 2026 FIFA World Cup is approaching fast, with 48 teams set to compete for the prestigious title. Among them will be the co-hosts: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. As the qualifiers continue, more teams are edging closer to securing their place in the tournament. With only a few spots remaining, the road to qualification is heating up.

Teams That Have Qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup So Far

As of now, a few teams have already earned their place in the 2026 World Cup. Along with the three host nations, several teams have made it through to the main event.

  1. United States
  2. Canada
  3. Mexico
  4. Japan – Japan secured their spot by finishing in the top two of Group C in the AFC third-round qualifiers.
  5. New Zealand – New Zealand clinched their place by winning the OFC third-round qualifiers.

These five teams are already confirmed for the World Cup. However, there are still 39 spots left to be filled, and the qualification process will continue through 2025.

Teams That Could Qualify for the 2026 World Cup Today

As the international window remains open, some teams have the chance to secure their spot today, March 25. Here’s a look at the teams that could qualify today:

Iran

Iran currently sits at the top of Group A in the AFC third-round qualifiers, unbeaten in seven matches. Today, they face Uzbekistan in a crucial match. A win against Uzbekistan would guarantee Iran’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup. However, even a loss could still see Iran through if both Qatar and the UAE fail to win their respective matches.

Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is in second place in Group A, just three points behind Iran. A victory over Iran today could give Uzbekistan a chance to qualify, depending on the results of other matches in the group.

Republic of Korea

Korea, the leaders in Group B of the AFC qualifiers, can also secure their place in the World Cup with a win today against Jordan. However, they will still need some help from Palestine. If Palestine manages to take points off Iraq, Korea will be through to the 2026 World Cup.

Argentina

The defending World Cup champions, Argentina, are on the verge of securing their qualification. They sit comfortably at the top of the South American qualifiers and face a major test today against Brazil. A draw or a win against Brazil would confirm Argentina’s qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Furthermore, if Bolivia fails to beat Uruguay in another qualifier before Argentina’s match, the La Albiceleste will have officially secured their spot.

As the qualifiers progress, the intensity is only expected to rise. While a few teams can secure their spots today, many more will battle it out over the coming months to join the 2026 World Cup lineup. By the end of 2025, 39 teams will have qualified, with the final six spots to be decided through inter-confederation play-offs in 2026.

For fans across the world, the excitement is building as the journey to the 2026 World Cup continues. Stay tuned for updates and developments as more teams aim to secure their place in the tournament.
