WhatsApp is set to introduce a redesigned call menu aimed at improving the calling experience for individual and group chats. This update, currently under development, will enhance call management and reduce accidental dialing. Spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.5.8), the new feature is expected to roll out in a future update.

Enhancing Call Accessibility with a New Menu

WhatsApp has been continuously refining its calling features. In a previous update (WhatsApp beta 2.24.21.29), the platform introduced a call link shortcut, allowing users to create and share call links directly from the chat interface. Now, WhatsApp is focusing on improving call accessibility by redesigning call buttons for both individual and group chats.

Currently, separate voice and video call buttons are placed in the top app bar, and tapping them initiates a call immediately. This sometimes results in unintentional calls, causing inconvenience to users. To address this issue, WhatsApp is developing a unified call menu that introduces a confirmation step before placing a call.

More Control Over Group Calls

A major improvement in the redesigned call menu is the enhanced control over group calls. Instead of calling all group members at once, users will be able to select specific participants before starting a call. This new flexibility will make group calls more convenient, ensuring that only the intended members join the conversation.

Quick Call Links for Easier Sharing

Another notable addition is the ability to generate call links directly from the redesigned menu. With this shortcut, users can quickly create and share voice or video call links without needing to navigate to the Calls tab. This streamlines the process of inviting participants to a call, making it more user-friendly.

Reducing Accidental Calls

One of the most anticipated benefits of this update is the prevention of accidental calls. Currently, tapping the call button immediately dials a contact or group, which can be disruptive. With the new call menu, users will have to confirm their choice before placing a call, reducing the likelihood of unintentional calls.

When Will the New Call Menu Be Available?

As the feature is still in development, it is not yet available for beta testers. However, WhatsApp is expected to roll out this update gradually in future versions. Users can look forward to a more refined calling experience as WhatsApp continues to enhance its platform.
