Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga has assured his supporters that he will soon announce his next course of action after failing to secure the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship.
Speaking on Saturday, Odinga reiterated his commitment to serving both Kenya and the African continent in various capacities despite the electoral setback.
“We are available to help the continent of Africa, but more importantly, we are also available for Kenya,” Odinga stated during a press briefing.
Consultations on Political Future
Odinga revealed that he plans to hold extensive discussions with his allies and supporters regarding the future of his political engagements in Kenya.
“Back home here, I am going to meet with my friends and supporters. I am going to consult widely about what is going on, and in due course, we are going to announce our way forward,” he stated.
He encouraged his supporters to stay tuned for further announcements.
“Watch this space. I will be talking again,” he added.
Gratitude for Support
Odinga expressed his appreciation to President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and the entire Kenyan delegation for supporting his bid for the top AU position.
“East or West, home is the best. I feel very delighted to be back in Kenya after what we went through. I want to thank President Ruto, Kindiki, Ministers, and all Kenyans who stood by us throughout this journey,” he said.
No Bitterness Over AUC Loss
Despite the loss to Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, Odinga maintained that he harbors no resentment towards his competitors.
“I want to thank those who voted against us; they were exercising their democratic right. We are not bitter at all. I also congratulated my competitors,” he said, emphasizing the spirit of democracy and unity within the African continent.
President Ruto’s Remarks
President William Ruto also addressed the AUC election outcome, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to Africa’s development under the Agenda 2063 framework.
“Africa remains a united continent, and Kenya will continue to contribute robustly to the realization of Agenda 2063,” Ruto said.
What’s Next for Raila Odinga?
With Odinga’s declaration of upcoming consultations, speculation is rife about his next political move. His long-standing influence in Kenyan politics makes his future decisions a subject of national interest. Analysts suggest that his upcoming announcement could shape the country’s political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
As his supporters await further communication, Odinga’s message remains clear—his political journey is far from over.
