Infections from drug-resistant “nightmare bacteria” have risen by almost 70% in the US between 2019 and 2023, according to the CDC. Experts say the increase is driven by bacteria carrying the NDM gene (New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase). Once rare and mostly seen outside the US, these bacteria are now spreading domestically. The NDM gene makes some bacteria resistant to nearly all antibiotics. Carbapenems, previously the last-resort treatment, may no longer work against these infections, raising serious public health concerns. The CDC warns that vigilance, infection control, and research into new treatments are critical to prevent further spread.
Nottingham Forest’s return to European football ended in heartbreak as Antony scored an 85th-minute equaliser for Real Betis, denying the visitors a historic win. Forest, managed by Ange Postecoglou, dominated for long periods, with Igor Jesus almost completing a first-half hat-trick. The visitors had 13 shots to Betis’s one by half-time and controlled much of the game, showcasing Postecoglou’s attacking vision. The Championship side had their first competitive European match since March 1996, giving thousands of travelling fans a taste of continental football. Despite…

Liverpool progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup thanks to an 85th-minute winner from Hugo Ekitiké, but the victory came at a price. Debutant defender Giovanni Leoni also left the pitch with what could be a serious knee injury. Alexander Isak opened the scoring for Liverpool, capitalizing on a mistake by Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. Isak’s first-time finish came only 46 seconds into the match, after Curtis Jones and Federico Chiesa combined to exploit defensive…

The US technology sector faced a sudden upheaval as changes to H-1B visas stirred uncertainty across companies and workers. On Friday, President Donald Trump signed a proclamation introducing a $100,000 fee for H-1B visas. This visa program allows foreign professionals, particularly from India, to work in the United States. Initially, the fee appeared to apply to all visa holders, including renewals, prompting concern among companies and workers relying on these visas. By Saturday night, however, a clarification eased some pressure: the fee would apply only to new visa petitions and not to current holders or renewals. Despite this, the announcement…
