Russia has launched a new wave of intense attacks on cities across Ukraine. These attacks have mainly hit civilian areas, causing many deaths and injuries. The recent strikes include the use of missiles and drones on residential buildings during the night, when people were sleeping. The capital city Kyiv, as well as Kramatorsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and areas in Donetsk, have all been targeted.
Civilians Live in Fear as Russia Uses Double-Strike Tactics
In Kharkiv and other cities, Russia is using a deadly tactic. First, a missile hits a target. Then, when rescue teams arrive, a second strike follows, killing emergency workers and civilians. This has made people feel like nowhere is safe. In Kyiv, 12 people, including children, were killed and over 90 injured in a night attack. Many were asleep in their homes during curfew when missiles directly hit their buildings.
Massive Explosives Hit Public Infrastructure
Kramatorsk, where journalist María Senovilla is currently based, also came under fire. A large bomb weighing over 500 kilograms exploded near the train station, damaging nearby buildings. Russia has attacked similar stations before to cut off cities like Kramatorsk from the rest of Ukraine. Officials fear the same may happen again. The attacks continue, even after a short Easter truce.
Cities, Hospitals, and Train Stations Under Attack
These strikes are not limited to military targets. Russia is also attacking hospitals, train stations, and homes. Experts and witnesses say these are war crimes, but international leaders have remained mostly silent. Ukrainians are losing hope, as peace talks are stalled and the situation at the front line grows worse.
Front Line Reaches Once-Safe Villages Like Borova
In Borova, a village in the Kharkiv region, the situation is critical. Russian forces are now only 10 kilometers away. The village, once considered safer, is now under constant attack. Only 500 residents remain. Most others have fled to places like Kharkiv or Izium, which are also under fire. The few who stay live in fear every day, often without basic services. Local officials work from private apartments because public buildings have been bombed multiple times.
Trump’s Peace Plan Seen as Favoring Russia
At the same time, former US President Donald Trump has proposed a peace plan that Ukraine strongly rejects. The plan asks Ukraine to stop fighting along the current front line, give up Crimea and other occupied areas, and drop its NATO membership hopes. It also includes a deal for the US to take control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. After Trump shared this plan, Russia launched even more strikes. Trump still claimed that President Putin was showing goodwill by not taking over all of Ukraine.
